Visa Waiver Program

The Visa Waiver Program (VWP) allows nationals from select countries to enter the United States for tourism or business without a visa. This program simplifies entry for travelers from participating countries, allowing them to stay in the U.S. for up to 90 days with less formal paperwork. Participants must waive their right to contest the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s decisions regarding their admissibility or removal, except when seeking asylum, by signing the I-94W form. The VWP includes an expedited removal process for those who violate its terms.

Visa Waiver Program Participants

The VWP includes 36 nations, among them Andorra, Australia, and the UK, the latter limited to British citizens with full residency rights, excluding British overseas citizens, among others. Nationals from these countries may still opt for a visa if preferred.

Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA)

To travel under the VWP, foreign nationals must obtain approval through ESTA, an automated system operated by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. This authorization is mandatory and involves a fee, accessible via the ESTA CBP DHS website.

Eligibility for the VWP includes:

A passport valid for six months beyond the intended stay
A visit of 90 days maximum for business or pleasure
Travel via an approved carrier with a round-trip ticket to a destination outside the U.S.
